Code Magus Dataset Access Method

The Code Magus Dataset Access Method is used to simplify the use of more complex Recio open specifications through the use of a catalogue.

PDF documentation

The Dataset Access Method uses the object name to locate a catalogue entry which in turns generates the real open specification for use by the application. This allows for data sources that have similar attributes (for example in the name due to a naming convention) to be catalogued as an entry in the catalogue and to make accessing those data sources simple; especially when the data source resides on a remote machine. The catalogue entry allows for different open specifications depending on the mode the dataset open specification is opened with.

For example a dataset AM open string of

dataset(HLQ.DEPT.FILE.V1.FB1024)

might be expanded for reading as

remote([MVS([DSN=HLQ.DEPT.FILE.V1.FB1024,DISP=SHR],using=binary,with=[mode=[rb,type=record],recfm=f,reclen=1024,type=record])],host=rmtMVS.company.net,port=60020,user=rmtuser,password=rmtpwd)

and for writing as

remote([MVS([DSN=HLQ.DEPT.FILE.V1.FB1024,DISP=(NEW,CATLG,DELETE),RECFM=FB,LRECL=1024,SPACE=(CYL,(50,50),RLSE)],using=binary,with=[mode=[wb,type=record],recfm=f,reclen=1024,type=record])],host=rmtMVS.company.net,port=60020,user=rmtuser,password=rmtpwd)
